Sterile Processing Technician (SPT)

CVP is seeking Sterile Processing Technicians to join our team in providing support operations at the VA Central California Health Care System. You'll play a vital role in delivering high-quality sterile processing services to support quality healthcare delivery for Veterans.

This is a full-time onsite position at Fresno VA Medical Center located at 2615 East Clinton Avenue, Fresno, CA 93703.

Working hours are five days per week, eight hours per day. Shifts are assigned based on facility need: 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, 3:00 PM to 11:30 PM, or 11:00 PM to 7:30 AM.

• Cleaning and decontaminating surgical instruments and medical equipment.
• Sterilizing instruments using autoclaves, V-Pro, machine washers, and ultrasonics.
• Inspecting instruments for damage, wear, staining, rust, and functionality.
• Reassembling and packaging instruments per AAMI, AORN, FDA, OSHA, and manufacturer instructions.
• Labeling and documenting sterilized packages accurately.
• Maintaining records of cleaning, sterilization, and maintenance activities.
• Adhering to infection control protocols and wearing appropriate PPE.
• Operating within VA standards and national healthcare guidelines.
• Participating in training and mentoring new staff on sterile processing procedures.
• Signing in/out daily and maintaining accurate timekeeping.
• Providing coverage during absences and ensuring continuity of care.
• Responding to schedule changes and emergencies within 2 hours.
• Complying with VA privacy, security, and data handling policies.

• Must be eligible to obtain a Public Trust government security clearance; US Citizenship is required
• Meets ONE OR MORE of the following requirements:
  • Certification as a Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) or higher by International Association of Healthcare Central Service Material Management (IAHCSMM/HSPA). 
  • Graduation from a nationally recognized CRCST training program with a minimum of 2 current years of documented work in the field.
  • Graduation from a nationally recognized Operating Room Technician training program with a minimum of 2 current years of documented work experience in a Sterile Processing Service environment.
  • Graduation from a US military training program for Surgical Technicians with a minimum of 2 current years of documented work experience in a Sterile Processing Service environment.
  • VA Level 2 certification with a minimum of 2 years current work experience in the SPS environment.
  • Non-Certified technicians with documented and verifiable SPS hands on work experience for a minimum of 5 years.
•  High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
• Ability to speak, understand, read, and write English fluently
• Minimum of two (2) years of recent professional experience in sterile processing
• Ability to operate sterilization equipment and follow manufacturer instructions
• Knowledge of sterile and unsterile medical supplies and equipment
• Familiarity with automated inventory management systems preferred
• Experience with barcoding inventory control systems preferred
• Knowledge of aseptic techniques and proper cleaning procedures
• Physical ability to stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, twist, and reach above shoulders during work shift
• Physical ability to operate equipment; capable of standing for long periods of extended time, lifting and/or transferring up to 50 lbs
