Overview

CVP is seeking a Board Certified/Board Eligible Ophthalmologist/Glaucoma Specialist to join our team in providing our Nation's Veterans with comprehensive Ophthalmology services at the Columbia VA Medical Center located at 6439 Garners Ferry Rd, Columbia, SC 29209. This is a full-time, on-site position. Working hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM, with rotating on-call coverage required at least one week per month, including weekends.

 

Contract Rate: $235/hr

On-Call Rate: $ 30/hr 

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive clinical Ophthalmology services including the full range of Ophthalmologist/Glaucoma specialist services to VA patient beneficiaries, spending approximately 95% of time in direct patient care.
  • Provide clinical and surgical Ophthalmology care, including oculoplastic procedures.
  • Provide consultative services at the patient's bedside for non-ambulatory patients and in the clinic setting.
  • Complete procedures within 30 days of the consultation date.
  • Perform comprehensive patient evaluations including history and physical examinations, diagnosis, and treatment of acute and chronic Ophthalmology conditions.
  • Follow all established medication policies and procedures (no sample medications).
  • Provide discharge education and follow-up instructions.
  • Ensure timely notification of test results to patients and providers in accordance with VHA Directive 1088.
  • Document all patient care accurately and in a timely manner in the EHR.
  • Complete appropriate QA/QI documentation (procedures, complications, outcomes).
  • Report all patient safety incidents within 24 hours.
  • Participate in quality improvement meetings and staff meetings.
  • Adhere to all patient safety, infection control, and HIPAA/Privacy Act.

Qualifications

  • Must be eligible to obtain a Public Trust government security clearance; U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Board Certified or Board Eligible by the American Board of Ophthalmology (ABO).
  • Current, full, active, and unrestricted license to practice medicine in any U.S. State, Territory, Commonwealth, or the District of Columbia.
  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from an accredited U.S. or Canadian medical school.
  • Completion of an ACGME-accredited residency in Ophthalmology.
  • Completion of an approved fellowship if performing subspecialty care (i.e. Glaucoma).
  • National Provider Identifier (NPI) report print out.
  • Active DEA license.
  • Current and active Basic Life Support (BLS) certification and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
  • Must not appear on the HHS OIG List of Excluded Individuals/Entities.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Ability to meet the physical requirements of the role.
