Overview

The Lead Health IT Informatics Analyst is a technical leadership role bridging clinical workflows and technology to optimize EHR systems supporting VA's Electronic Health Record Modernization. This position leads analytical efforts for clinical informatics solutions across 170+ VA Medical Centers, working with both Oracle Health (Millennium/Cerner) and VistA/CPRS platforms.

Responsibilities

Clinical Analysis & Solution Design

  • Lead comprehensive analysis of clinical workflows, processes, and information needs across multiple clinical domains
  • Design and optimize clinical informatics solutions including clinical decision support (CDS) tools, order sets, care plans, and documentation templates
  • Conduct gap analysis and translate clinical requirements into technical specifications and system configurations
  • Perform EHR build, configuration, and optimization activities aligned with evidence-based practices
  • Support testing, validation, and implementation of EHR enhancements

Data Analysis & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Perform complex data analysis using VA Clinical Data Warehouse (CDW) and create dashboards, visualizations, and performance reports
  • Lead requirements gathering sessions with clinical stakeholders and facilitate workshops to elicit needs and priorities
  • Document functional and technical requirements with traceability to business objectives
  • Coordinate user acceptance testing (UAT) and build consensus among diverse stakeholders
  • Analyze utilization patterns, adoption metrics, and clinical quality indicators

Leadership & Agile Delivery

  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior informatics analysts
  • Participate in SAFe® Agile ceremonies including PI Planning, Sprint Planning, and retrospectives supporting two-week iteration cycles
  • Coordinate analytical work across multiple workstreams and review deliverables for quality
  • Create and maintain comprehensive documentation including requirements specifications, workflow diagrams, configuration guides, and training materials
  • Support continuous value delivery and knowledge sharing across teams

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required in Health Informatics, Health Information Management, Nursing Informatics, Computer Science, Information Systems, Healthcare Administration, or related field
  • Master's degree preferred in Health Informatics or Clinical Informatics
  • Clinical background highly preferred (RN, LPN, Respiratory Therapist, Medical Technologist, Pharmacy Technician, or similar clinical credential)
  • Health informatics certifications preferred (CAHIMS, CPHIMS); Epic or Cerner certification a plus
  • Minimum 5 years in health IT informatics analysis
  • Minimum 2 years in a lead or senior analyst role
  • Proven experience with EHR systems, preferably Oracle Health (Millennium/Cerner) and/or VistA/CPRS
  • Demonstrated experience conducting clinical workflow analysis, process improvement, and data analysis
  • Healthcare industry experience required; federal healthcare experience preferred
  • Strong working knowledge of EHR systems (Oracle Health Millennium/Cerner and/or VistA/CPRS)
  • Proficiency with SQL, data analytics tools (Power BI, Excel), and business intelligence platforms
  • Understanding of clinical decision support tools, clinical documentation, and care delivery workflows
  • Knowledge of healthcare interoperability standards (HL7, FHIR) and clinical terminology systems (SNOMED, LOINC, RxNorm, ICD-10)
  • Experience with requirements analysis, business process modeling, gap analysis, and quality improvement methodologies
