Overview

CVP is seeking experienced Board Certified Oncology Physicians to provide comprehensive oncology services to our Nation's Veterans at the Buffalo VA Medical Center and associated locations in Buffalo, NY. This is a full-time, on-site position providing expert consultation and treatment to patients in both inpatient and outpatient settings, including on-call coverage for after-hours care.

 

Rate: $225-255/hr 1099

Responsibilities

Clinical Care (90% of time):

  • Provide expert consultation and treatment to patients in inpatient and outpatient clinic settings with approximately 5 hours of inpatient coverage and 26 hours of bookable clinical time per week
  • Evaluate, triage, and prioritize consults from primary care and other services for outpatient oncology consultations with approximate case load of 2 patients per hour during bookable clinical time
  • Obtain comprehensive medical histories, conduct thorough physical examinations, order and evaluate appropriate laboratory testing, and develop treatment plans for oncology patients
  • Coordinate medical management and care with Primary Care providers and other personnel in a multidisciplinary healthcare delivery system
  • Provide discharge education and follow-up instructions coordinated with next care setting for all oncology clinical patients
  • Establish mechanisms for notification of test results in accordance with VHA Directive 1088, Communicating Test Results to Providers and Patients
  • Follow all established medication policies and procedures without providing sample medications to patients
  • Provide oncology on-call services during evenings, weekends, and holidays with availability within 15 minutes by phone and on-site within 60 minutes

Administrative Duties (10% of time):

  • Participate in continuous quality improvement activities and meetings with committee participation as required by VA facility Chief of Service or Chief of Staff
  • Attend required staff meetings including Oncology/Hematology Conference (weekly, 26 hours annually), Surgical/Oncology Conference (bi-weekly, 26 hours annually), Head and Neck Tumor Board Conference (ad hoc, up to 10 hours annually), and Lung Tumor Board Conference (twice monthly, 24 hours annually)
  • Complete appropriate QM/PI documentation pertaining to all procedures, complications, and outcomes of examinations
  • Perform administrative tasks as assigned such as peer review and Ongoing Professional Practice Evaluations
  • Follow established patient safety and infection control standards, document patient safety events in medical records, disclose to patients, and submit entries in VA Patient Safety Reporting System within 24 hours

Qualifications

  • Medical degree from accredited medical school
  • Board Certification by the American Board of Internal Medicine Medical Oncology Board (required)
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification or equivalency
  • Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine in any State, Territory, Commonwealth of the United States, or District of Columbia

Schedule Requirements:

Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM (40 hours per week per FTE)

Locations:

  • Buffalo VAMC 3495 Bailey Ave, Buffalo NY 14215 (Primary site)
  • Batavia VAMC 222 Richmond Ave, Batavia NY, 14020
  • Olean CBOC 465 North Union Street, Olean NY 14760

Providers will conduct clinic at Batavia VAMC (36.4 miles from Buffalo) and Olean CBOC (75.5 miles from Buffalo) based on patient volume with minimum of one day per quarter and maximum of one day per week for each location

 

On-Call Coverage: Available during all hours when facility clinic is closed including evenings, weekends, and holidays

  • On-call providers must be available within 15 minutes by phone for consultations with VA residents and physicians
  • On-call providers must be available on-site within 60 minutes when required
