Medical Technologist

CVP is seeking experienced Medical Technologists to join our team providing comprehensive laboratory services to our Nation's Veterans at the White River Junction VA Medical Center in White River Junction, VT. This is a full-time, on-site position specializing in multi-disciplinary laboratory testing across chemistry, hematology, blood bank, microbiology, and urinalysis departments.

Pay: $40/hr 

Laboratory Operations:

• Perform routine testing on automated instrumentation including Abbott Architect ci8200, Abbott Alinity, Beckman Coulter Urinalysis, Sysmex hematology, ACL Top coagulation, and Microscan systems
• Execute manual testing procedures in chemistry, urinalysis, hematology, coagulation, and microbiology as required by laboratory protocols
• Conduct blood bank operations including typing, crossmatching, antibody screening/identification, and blood product processing using tube and gel technology
• Perform specimen plating, gram staining, culture interpretation, and PCR testing for microbiology diagnostics

Quality Assurance and Safety:

• Participate in College of American Pathologists (CAP) Proficiency Testing Program and maintain daily/weekly quality control procedures
• Positively identify patients and specimens, safeguard patient information, and follow all safety protocols and infection control measures
• Document and report testing results accurately, identify and resolve collection/processing/testing issues
• Perform preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and calibration of laboratory instrumentation

Administrative Requirements:

• Participate in monthly Laboratory Quality Improvement and Staff meetings (24 hours annually total)
• Complete mandatory VA training requirements and maintain continuing education for certification
• Maintain accurate documentation in laboratory information systems

Education and Certification:

• Bachelor's degree in medical laboratory science, medical technology, clinical laboratory science, or related science with completion of accredited clinical practice program OR
• Bachelor's degree with 16+ semester hours each of biological science and chemistry plus 2 years post-certification MLT experience
• Current ASCP-BOC, ASCP-BOR, or AMT certification as MT/MLS/CLS
• Current BLS certification and US Citizenship for Public Trust clearance

Experience and Skills:

• Minimum 3 years recent experience in chemistry, urinalysis, blood bank, hematology, coagulation, and microbiology
• Proficiency in laboratory information systems, quality control procedures, and equipment troubleshooting
• Excellent analytical abilities, attention to detail, and ability to work independently
• Physical ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 pounds

Primary Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM with rotating weekend coverage (1-2 weekends per month)

• Weekend shifts: 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM or 2:30 PM - 11:00 PM with schedule variations as needed
• Compensatory weekday off before and after weekend assignments
• Available for federal holidays and overtime as needed
