Overview

The IT Systems Trainer develops and delivers comprehensive training programs for NYC Department of Education employees on enterprise IT systems and applications. This professional creates and implements training curricula tailored to various user groups across their assigned borough, ensuring successful technology adoption through effective educational methods.

Responsibilities

Training Development 

  • Confers with management, staff, and technical training coordinators to determine specific training objectives aligned with system implementation goals
  • Writes complete training programs, including outlines, instructional text, handouts, and assessment tools
  • Designs practical exercises that reinforce learning objectives and system proficiency
  • Creates training materials that address different learning styles and technical proficiency levels
  • Develops content that follows system documentation, specifications, and best practices

Training Delivery

  • Schedules and conducts training sessions based on classroom availability, stakeholder needs, and implementation timelines
  • Lectures on system functionality, navigation, and operational procedures using structured outlines and supporting materials
  • Leverages visual aids including demonstrations, screenshots, charts, and video tutorials to enhance comprehension
  • Demonstrates hands-on procedures for system operation, troubleshooting, and workflow integration
  • Adapts presentation methods to accommodate varying technical backgrounds and learning needs

Assessment and Support 

  • Observes trainees during practical exercises and provides constructive guidance
  • Administers knowledge checks and practical assessments to evaluate comprehension
  • Creates performance reports to track training effectiveness and identify knowledge gaps
  • Provides post-training support through office hours, help desk activities, and follow-up sessions
  • Documents common questions and issues to inform future training improvements

Professional Development

  • Participates in meetings, seminars, and training sessions to stay current on educational methodologies and system updates
  • Integrates new information into training programs to keep content relevant and effective
  • Collaborates with other trainers and IT staff to share best practices and coordinate training approaches
  • Contributes to the continuous improvement of training materials and methodologies

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Instructional Design, Information Technology, or related field
  • 3+ years of experience designing and delivering technical training for enterprise systems
  • Demonstrated ability to develop comprehensive training programs for diverse audiences
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with ability to explain technical concepts clearly
  • Experience with learning management systems and educational technology tools
  • Knowledge of adult learning principles and training best practices
  • Work location primarily within assigned NYC borough with both on-site and remote training delivery
  • Must pass NYC DOE fingerprinting and background check
