Overview

CVP is seeking Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs) to join our team in providing our Nation's Veterans with anesthesia services at the Columbia VA Medical Center. This is a full-time position with opportunities for on-call, callback, holiday, and overtime hours.

 

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct anesthesia care to patients in accordance with the standards of care established by The Joint Commission, American Hospital Association, and VA requirements
  • Work 8-hour shifts from 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. with potential on-call/after hours care until 7:00 a.m. the following day
  • Perform critical care nursing to Intensive Care Unit patients
  • Perform scrub and circulating duties in the Emergency Department and Operating Room
  • Obtain patient history and pertinent family information
  • Assess patient condition and plan appropriate nursing care
  • Document plan of care and care given in patient's electronic medical record
  • Verify transcription of physician's orders
  • Carry out prescribed physician's orders and document in patient medical record
  • Communicate pertinent patient data to charge nurse and/or physician as appropriate
  • Reassess patient's condition and revise plans of care based on identified nursing problems
  • Administer medications and Intravenous (IV) therapies
  • Possess knowledge of actions and usual dosages of most commonly used emergency drugs and their location on crash cart
  • Assess and document patient response to administered medication
  • Interpret cardiac rhythms and their implications
  • Recognize and initiate appropriate measures in emergencies
  • Instruct patient/family regarding prescribed medications/therapies and surgical/diagnostic procedures
  • Operate defibrillator, EKG machines, cardiac monitor, and other emergency technical equipment
  • Participate in discharge planning as appropriate
  • Initiate life-saving measures in the absence of physicians
  • Participate in quality improvement activities and meetings as required
  • Attend monthly staff meetings
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to all policies regarding privacy and release of information

Qualifications

  • U.S. citizenship required to undergo a Government-sponsored background investigation
  • Master's or doctoral degree in nurse anesthesia from a program accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Education Programs (COA)
  • Current, active, full, and unrestricted license to practice as a Certified Nurse Anesthetist in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States or in the District of Columbia
  • Current certification by the National Board of Certification and Recertification for Nurse Anesthetists (NBCRNA)
  • Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Current certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
  • A minimum of one (1) year direct patient care experience within the last three (3) years; VA experience is desirable
  • Ability to speak, understand, read, and write English fluently
  • Understanding of medical terminology, hospital terminology, and clinical procedures

Work Schedule:

  • Full-time position (80 hours per pay period)
  • Primary shift: Monday-Friday, 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
  • On-call/after hours, overtime, and holiday coverage as needed
