Overview

 

CVP is seeking a Board Certified Therapeutic Medical Physicist to join our team in providing our Nation's Veterans with Radiation Oncology services at the VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System in Pittsburgh, PA. This is a full-time, on-site position.

Responsibilities

  • Provide on-site physics and dosimetry leadership for the VA Radiation Oncology Service, being present at least 50% of the time per week during clinical hours while patients are being treated.
  • Develop, implement, supervise, and periodically review all Quality Management Program (QMP) policies and procedures that pertain to radiation therapy equipment.
  • Design, optimize and technically evaluate radiation treatment plans and ensuring precise and accurate radiation dose delivery.
  • Oversee all physics and dosimetry operations and technical activities of other physicists, dosimetrists, and other staff members assigned to the unit.
  • Provide advice and consultation to VA staff for the operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of linear accelerators, CT simulation equipment, and computerized network connectivity.
  • Determine the need for, specify, and have access to dosimetry and treatment planning equipment.
  • Direct the technical aspects of treatment procedures including SRS/SRT, IMRT, IGRT, and both HDR and LDR brachytherapy.
  • Ensure that all treatment planning software updates and bug fixes are installed, tested, and validated in a timely manner.
  • Coordinate, complete TLD measurements and submit results annually for 3rd party calibration analysis.
  • Provide quarterly Quality Assurance reports for the Quality Assurance Committee and Radiation Safety Committee, and attend quarterly Radiation Safety meetings.
  • Ensure radiation protection of patients and staff through compliance with safety protocols and regulations.
  • Maintain documentation of calibration, periodic testing, performance characteristics, and other quality-related activities.
  • Be present at the machine during patient setup for SBRT/SRS and IGRT and present at all times during HDR brachytherapy.
  • Provide support for ultrasound-guided prostate implants and brachytherapy services.
  • Develop and maintain a quality management program (QMP) for dosimetry systems and all applications.
  • Provide network and computer administration for radiotherapy planning, delivery and treatment management systems.

Qualifications

  • Must be a U.S. citizen and successfully undergo a government background investigation.
  • Master's degree or higher in a physics, science, or engineering discipline with at least 30 semester hours in medical physics, health physics, radiological science, physics, engineering, chemistry, or biology.
  • Board Certification in the field of therapeutic medical physics by an approved certifying body (American Board of Radiology (ABR).
  • At least 5 years of experience as a Therapeutic Medical Physicist with in-depth knowledge of medical imaging modalities, brachytherapy procedures, and radiation dose distribution generation.
  • Experience with 3D external planning, Intensity-Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT), stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT), stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS), computerized treatment planning systems, CT scan planning, electronic portal image device (EPID), on-board imaging (OBI), and electron treatment.
  • Experience coordinating electronic submission of adverse events, near misses, and producing reports for quality assurance committees.
  • Must complete all VA educational requirements and mandatory courses.
  • Ability to maintain proper certification through continuing education.
  • Demonstrated experience with networked treatment planning and delivery systems.
