Overview

CVP is seeking a Board Certified Medical Dosimetrist to join our team in providing our Nation's Veterans with Radiation Oncology services at the VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System in Pittsburgh, PA. This is a full-time, on-site position.

Responsibilities

  • Design treatment plans by means of computer and/or manual computation that will deliver a prescribed radiation dose and field placement technique in accordance with the VA Radiation Oncologist's prescription to a defined tumor volume.
  • Consider dose-limiting structures in the design of treatment plans and document dose in accordance with VA Radiation Oncologist prescriptions.
  • Assist with treatment simulations and tumor localization on dedicated devices, including computer tomography and MRI, for radiation therapy treatment planning.
  • Perform, in conjunction with the Chief Medical Physicist, treatment planning for SRS/SRT, HDR brachytherapy, IMRT, IGRT, and LDR brachytherapy.
  • Be present during patient treatment for HDR brachytherapy and provide backup coverage during volume study procedures for LDR brachytherapy.
  • Plan, oversee, and supervise fabrication of compensating filters, custom shields, wedges, and other beam modifying devices.
  • Assist in the planning, oversight, and production of molds, casts, and other immobilization devices.
  • Assist radiation therapy staff in the implementation of treatment plans including the correct use of immobilization devices, compensators, wedges, field arrangements, and other treatment variables.
  • Perform calculation methods for the delivery of prescribed dose, and provide subsequent documentation in patient files, and verification of the mathematical accuracy of all calculations.
  • Provide dosimetry and technical support to the Medical Physicist in radiation protection, qualitative and quantitative machine calibration, and quality assurance of radiation therapy equipment.
  • Assist in the application of specific methods of dosimetry, including ion chamber, TLD, or film measurements as directed by the Medical Physicist.
  • Process view alerts in a timely manner and maintain accurate clinical documentation in VA systems.
  • Comply with all VA policies regarding patient privacy, information security, and confidentiality of medical records.

Qualifications

  • Must be a U.S. citizen and successfully undergo a government background investigation.
  • Graduate from a Medical Dosimetry Program of at least 12 months with a minimum of a bachelor's degree.
  • Board Certification by the American Board of Radiology.
  • Experience with SRS/SRT, HDR brachytherapy, IMRT, IGRT, and LDR brachytherapy treatment planning.
  • Must complete all VA educational requirements and mandatory courses.
  • Ability to maintain proper certification through continuing education.
  • Experience with treatment planning systems and radiation protection practices.
  • Knowledge of VA systems is preferred.
