Overview

CVP is seeking experienced Registered Respiratory Therapists with polysomnography certification to join our team in providing services to the Department of Veterans Affairs Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System (VAGLAHS) in Los Angeles, CA. This position requires therapists who can also function as Polysomnographers, working 8-hour shifts from either 8:00am to 4:30pm or 8:00pm to 4:30am.

Responsibilities

Respiratory Therapy Duties:

  • Administer therapeutic and diagnostic procedures using medical gases and administration devices including oxygen and nitric oxide
  • Manage all forms of humidification with appropriate devices, including aerosols and high flow systems
  • Administer inhaled medications to the cardiopulmonary system using appropriate devices
  • Assist with intubation procedures
  • Operate all ventilators in the VAGLAHS facility and manage all modes of mechanical ventilation
  • Perform Chest Physiotherapy (CPT), both manual and with the Vest System, and postural drainage
  • Respond to Rapid Response Calls
  • Set up and manage Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP), Automatic Positive Airway Pressure (APAP), and Bilevel Positive Airway Pressure (BIPAP) systems
  • Provide patient and family education regarding treatments and care
  • Perform arterial punctures
  • Recognize the need for medical intervention if patient safety is at risk

Polysomnography Duties:

  • Perform full night polysomnogram studies
  • Conduct "split-night" diagnostic/therapeutic studies (polysomnogram during first part and CPAP titration during second half)
  • Perform sleep staging using continuous recording of EEG, EOG, and EMG channels
  • Monitor and record sleep patterns, blood oxygen levels, body position, brain waves, breathing rate, muscle activity, eye movements, leg movements, and heart rate
  • Maintain a technical log (manual and electronic) of patient information including nocturnal activity, position, and events
  • Perform electronic and manual scoring of sleep studies
  • Follow established protocols for responding to findings requiring medical evaluation or treatment

Qualifications

  • Graduate from an accredited Respiratory Therapy program
  • Current Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential issued by National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC)
  • Must also possess either Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) certification from the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (BRPT) OR Registered Sleep Technologist (RST) certification from the American Association of Sleep Medicine (AASM)
  • Current licensure with the Respiratory Board of California
  • Registration with the Medical Board of California for polysomnography
  • Minimum of 2 years of Respiratory Therapy experience, with at least 1 year in critical care
  • Minimum of 2 years of polysomnography experience
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required; Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) preferred
  • Ability to pass a government background check
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work well in a team environment
  • Three professional references

Shift

  • Full-time position with 8-hour shifts, working either day shift (8:00am - 4:30pm) or night shift (8:00pm - 4:30am), with two 15-minute breaks and one 30-minute meal break per shift.
