Overview

CVP is seeking Board Certified/Board Eligible Psychiatrists to join our team in providing our Nation's Veterans with psychiatric services at the Lt. Col. Luke Weathers, Jr. VA Medical Center in Memphis, TN. This opportunity involves providing onsite psychiatric services with some on-call and call-back responsibilities.

Responsibilities

Inpatient Care:

  • Provide psychiatric evaluation, diagnosis, treatment planning, and ongoing care for veterans in inpatient settings
  • Collaborate with Mental Health staff in the Psychiatry Service for ward patients
  • Manage admissions, treatment, and discharge/transfer processes
  • Document all patient encounters thoroughly in electronic medical records

Outpatient Care:

  • Evaluate new patient referrals and review accompanying medical records
  • Provide care for severely mentally ill patients
  • Process E-consults and determine appropriate disposition
  • Conduct post-discharge follow-up care
  • Ensure patients receive timely care within 30 days of referral

Clinic and Residential Care:

  • Provide clinical psychiatry services in various settings
  • Examine patients and interpret clinical reports as required
  • Manage a caseload of approximately 6-6.5 patient bookable hours per day (6 one-hour appointments or 12 half-hour appointments)
  • Collaborate with VA staff to ensure continuity of care

Additional Duties:

  • Participate in peer review of selected cases including tort claims, patient family complaints, and benefit appeals
  • Attend required staff meetings (approximately 1 hour monthly)
  • Complete appropriate Quality Management/Performance Improvement documentation
  • Follow all patient safety and infection control standards
  • Report any patient safety incidents within 24 hours
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA regulations

Qualifications

  • Medical degree (MD or DO) from a school in the United States or Canada
  • Board Certification/Board Eligibility by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology
  • Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine in any State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or the District of Columbia
  • Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
  • Ability to pass VA credentialing and privileging process
  • Ability to pass a government background investigation (US Citizenship required)
  • Experience with electronic health record systems
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

Schedule:

  • Mental Health Clinic: Monday – Friday, 8:00am – 4:30pm
  • Inpatient Psychiatry: Monday – Friday, 8:00am – 5:00pm
  • Specialty Clinics: Monday – Friday, 8:00am – 4:30pm
  • On-call hours: 4:30pm – 8:00am Monday-Friday, with weekend inpatient coverage hours from 8:00am – 4:30pm Saturday and Sunday
