Overview

CVP is seeking a Medical Instrument Technician/Perfusionist to provide onsite support at Malcom Randall Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Gainesville, FL.

Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain heart-lung machines by setting up equipment, calibrating parameters, adjusting settings during procedures, and ensuring effective patient circulation and oxygenation support
  • Monitor vital patient physiological data including blood gas levels, temperature, pressure gradients, and other critical indicators throughout surgical procedures
  • Collaborate closely with surgical teams including surgeons, anesthesiologists, and nursing staff to coordinate care and ensure optimal patient outcomes
  • Administer blood products and medications as directed to manage patient circulation, blood clotting, and other physiological functions during cardiopulmonary bypass
  • Document all perfusion activities according to hospital protocols and regulatory requirements
  • Maintain perfusion equipment through regular inspection, testing, and quality control procedures
  • Respond rapidly to emergent situations by implementing appropriate interventions and communicating effectively with the surgical team

Qualifications

  • Certification: Certification as a Certified Clinical Perfusionist (CCP) through the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion (ABCP) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
  • Licensure: State licensure/registration as required 
  • Experience: 1-3 years of clinical perfusion experience preferred 
  • Technical Skills:
    • Proficiency with various types of heart-lung machines and perfusion equipment
    • Knowledge of extracorporeal circulation techniques
    • Understanding of cardiovascular anatomy, physiology, and pathophysiology
    • Familiarity with blood gas analysis and interpretation
  • Soft Skills:
    • Exceptional attention to detail and ability to remain focused during lengthy procedures
    • Strong decision-making abilities under pressure
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
    • Ability to stand for extended periods and remain alert during long surgeries
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to lift/move equipment up to 50 pounds, manual dexterity, and visual acuity
