Overview

CVP is seeking a Histotechnologist to join our team in providing laboratory services for Veterans at the White River Junction VA Medical Center in White River Junction, VT. Working hours will vary across shifts to provide coverage during standard operating hours. 

Location: VA White River Junction at 215 N Main St, White River Junction, VT 05009.

 

W2 Duration: 4/1/2025 – 11/27/2025.

 

Responsibilities

  • Perform gross examination and processing of tissue specimens. 
  • Accession specimens into the computer system following established protocols. 
  • Prepare tissue specimens through embedding, cutting, and staining procedures. 
  • Perform special stains as requested by pathologists. 
  • Prepare and cover-slip tissue slides. 
  • Assist pathologists with surgical and frozen sections. 
  • May serve as backup morgue assistant including: assisting pathologists during autopsies, managing specimen identification and setup, performing body closure procedures, conducting cleanup operations.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment and perform routine maintenance. 
  • Document all procedures in the Laboratory Information System. 
  • Follow quality control procedures and maintain proper documentation. 
  • Participate in quality assurance activities and maintain CAP compliance. 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Clinical Laboratory Science or related field from an accredited institution. 
  • Current certification as a Histotechnologist (HT) through ASCP. 
  • Minimum of 3 years of recent experience in Histology and Cytology. 
  • Strong knowledge of tissue preparation and staining techniques. 
  • Experience with computerized laboratory information systems. 
  • Demonstrated knowledge of laboratory safety and infection control procedures. 
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills. 
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills. 
  • Ability to pass a federal background check; US Citizenship required.

Physical Requirements: 

  • Ability to stand/walk for extended periods. 
  • Ability to lift/move up to 25 pounds. 
  • Manual dexterity for precise tissue cutting and processing. 
  • Visual acuity for microscopic examination.
