Overview

CVP is seeking Registered Respiratory Therapists to join our team in providing care to our nation's veterans at the VA Long Beach Healthcare System. This is an excellent opportunity to work with state-of-the-art equipment and contribute to the health and well-being of our veterans.

 

Location: 5901 E. 7th Street, Long Beach, CA 90822

 

Shift: Six 12 hour shifts and one 8 hour shift per 2-week period.

*Shifts may include days, nights, weekends, and holidays as needed

 

W2 Rate: $50.00/hour.
Overtime Rate: $59.91/hour.

Responsibilities

  • Provide specialized respiratory care in inpatient units, including administering respiratory medications (e.g., bronchodilators, steroids).
  • Perform Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) in accordance with hospital and department policies.
  • Conduct Pulmonary Function Tests (PFTs) and interpret results.
  • Assist with intubations and other simple procedures (e.g., bronchoscopies, thoracentesis, chest tube placement).
  • Operate, maintain, and adjust both invasive and non-invasive ventilator machines, including portable CPAP and Bi-level machines.
  • Draw and analyze Arterial Blood Gases (ABGs) and adjust patient modality based on results.
  • Utilize handheld nebulizers and perform Intermittent Positive Pressure Breathing (IPPB) treatments.
  • Respond to hospital codes and perform associated duties.
  • Provide patient education on treatment plans and care instructions.
  • Collaborate with physicians and other healthcare providers on patient care plans.
  • Document patient progress and care in electronic medical records.
  • Serve as a resource for nursing staff on respiratory equipment use.
  • Comply with VHA standard operating procedures and policies.

Qualifications

  • Current credentials as a Registered Respiratory Therapist from the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC).
  • Current, active, and unrestricted license to practice as an RRT.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in an acute care hospital setting.
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
  • COVID-19 vaccination or approved exemption.
  • Proficiency in mechanical ventilation management and multiple ventilator types.
  • Strong knowledge of respiratory medications and treatments.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle emergency situations.
  • Basic computer skills and experience with electronic medical records.

 

Additional Requirements

  • Ability to pass a government-sponsored background investigation (US Citizenship Required).
